Carmel McQueen

Kind-hearted Carmel was devastated by Niall’s attack on her family and the subsequent death of younger sister Tina in the explosion that he engineered. The pressure of finding out about Niall’s abandonment and of Myra not choosing her to survive has caused tension between Carmel and her mother ever since. Carmel’s marriage has also been through a rough period after her husband Calvin mistakenly accused her of cheating.

Carmel is Gemma’s first major TV role, joining the cast in 2006.

Cindy Cunningham
played by Stephanie Waring

Cindy’s grief at the loss of her little brother Max has done little to curb her manipulative personality. Her return, complete with daughter Holly, has already stirred trouble in the lives and relationships of plenty of fellow residents. Cindy has been seeing Darren Osborne, but is too scared to make any real relationship commitment.

Stephanie Waring first came onto our screens in 1995 and has since made regular appearances in the village. She was last seen on HOLLYOAKS in 2004 when Cindy returned for her fathers funeral.

Hannah Ashworth
played by Emma Rigby

Hannah’s had a turbulent couple of years, babysitting Grace when she died and falling for JP McQueen, only for him to admit he’s gay. Her insecurities led her to suffering from anorexia with her friend Melissa, who subsequently died. Hannah is now finally on the long road to recovery.

Hannah has recently been enjoying the attention of ladies man Ash Roy, much to Justin Burton’s dismay.

Before taking the role of Hannah, Emma had previously appeared in both Brookside and Born and Bred, as well as taking on various modelling jobs.

Jacqui Malota
played by Claire Cooper

Jacqui was dealt a double blow during Niall’s revenge on her family. Not only did she lose younger sister Tina but she also found out that partner Tony had slept with her other sister Mercedes and that they aborted their child together. Jacqui moved home to her mother Myra and is now caring for baby Max, Tina’s newborn son. Jacqui has recently gotten back to her thieving ways, with the help of her cousin Theresa and some fake pregnancy bumps!

Claire had previously appeared in Waterloo Road and Coronation Street, before joining HOLLYOAKS as part of the McQueen clan.

Mercedes McQueen
played by Jennifer Metcalfe

Mercedes is a feisty female who usually gets what she wants. After discovering that Rhys was cheating on her with his sister Beth, Mercedes took a brief break from men. Returning to form Mercedes seemed to be smitten with Kris’ brother Malachy. However, this too went sour when Malachy discovered that he had contracted HIV and that he may have passed it on to her.

During a dramatic trip to Ireland the pair decided that their feelings were too strong to ignore and they married in Malachy’s hometown. Mercedes and Malachy have returned to the village a married couple desperate to make money any way they can, coming up with all sorts of crazy schemes.

Having previously had roles in Emmerdale and other TV dramas, Mercedes is Jennifer’s first major part.
